Celebrating B-Corp Certification Milestone

As a people-first technology company, three rocks® strives to put people at the heart of everything we do. Whether that be our employees, suppliers, customers or their customers, we want to make a positive difference. When we launched three rocks® a year ago, we did so on our values – together, better, different – and believe these capture the essence of what we’re about.

There are now more than 2,000 Certified B Corps in the UK, a figure that has doubled in just 18 months, making the UK the fastest growing B Corp community in the world. Certification is administered by not-for-profit, B Lab UK, to businesses that meet the rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, ranked based on their positive impact on the planet and stakeholders, including employees, communities and customers.

For us, becoming a Certified B Corporation goes beyond ethical responsibility, it’s also a valuable opportunity to strengthen our business.

We began our B Corp journey in September 2023, almost immediately after three rocks® was formed, and it has been an extremely exciting year since. With 40 employees and an amazing client roster, including Pizza Hut, TGI Friday's, and The Big Table Group, we've grown our team by over 20% and boosted our turnover by 30%.

Our Chief Data Officer, Andy Kaplan, said: “If you look at our growth within this period, it shows that doing the right things for customers, employees, communities and the environment, can also positively affect the bottom line. We are recognising the commercial benefits of being a Certified B Corporation. The assessment journey has added depth and breadth to many areas in the business, and we know this is just the beginning. We’re excited to experience the further impacts of being a part of the B Corp movement and in turn the effect we have on our people and the planet.”

To get here, we made some important changes. One key step was updating our Articles of Association to make it clear that our Board is committed to adding meaningful value beyond just profits. We also reviewed and improved our policies and procedures, aligning everything with the rigorous standards needed for B Corp certification. As policies and processes were reviewed and improved, we made a subtle shift in how we operate.

We already adopted a people-first focus on our team, clients, and end users of technology, so we built on those alongside other areas such as environment and community impact.

Our Managing Director, Scott Muncaster, perfectly summed up why becoming a B Corp meant so much to us: “Given our desire to want to do business better for the benefit of people, the B Corp movement felt like a natural step to further improve the way we can positively contribute to our society and our environment. We are over the moon to have become part of the B Corp movement and excited by where this journey will take us and who we can bring along with us.”

Our CTO, Matt Rawlins, expressed how much this achievement means to our team: “We’re extremely proud of everyone within the business for reaching this milestone so early in the company’s life. Organisations have to score 80 or above based on the B Impact Assessment of the company’s effect on the environment, communities and stakeholders, and we achieved 84.1 with our highest scoring areas being customers, workers and governance. We have already seen the benefits of striving to become B Corp Certified by being more mindful and deliberate in our actions around customer stewardship, environmental impact and EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion), to name but a few. However, being a B Corp doesn’t mean we can take our foot off the gas, and we’re committed to continuously improving.”

This is just the start of our journey as a Certified B Corporation, and now that we’ve achieved it, our goal is to keep improving, ensuring that we maintain this certification when we’re reassessed in 2027. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey so far. We’re excited about what comes next!
